Dia de los Muertos to honor loved ones in Craig

Amid the hustle and bustle and sugar flow of Halloween, an opportunity to celebrate a different aspect of the holiday is available this week.

The Health Partnership will host the Dia de los Muertos Community Altar from Thursday through Sunday at Colorado Northwestern Community College.

Dia de los Muertos — translated to Day of the Dead — is traditionally Nov. 1 and is a facet of Mexican culture in which deceased family and friends are honored posthumously.

CNCC’s Room 185 will house an altar — ofrenda — which community members are invited to visit and leave a token or a photo of a loved one or to write a note or make a paper flower.

The school’s public library will also serve as a welcome space for visitors to absorb the collective energy of remembering.

The multi-day event will be available from 8 a.m. Thursday through 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
