Hayden police arrest man for alleged drunken harassment and gun possession at local business

Hayden police arrested a man Sunday for allegedly possessing a gun while under the influence and harassing an employee of a Hayden small business, according to the arrest affidavit.

Timothy Cychosz, 43, entered a business on East Jefferson Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. and started talking to an employee who previously dated Cychosz, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states that security video footage shows Cychosz stumbling inside the store, following the employee around and drinking three “shooters” from the sales counter.

According to the affidavit, the employee stated that Cychosz had spoken to her earlier that evening and “became belligerent” when she told him she had a boyfriend.

The employee also told law enforcement that she and Cychosz dated two years ago for 4-6 months, but broke up because Cychosz would get “black-out drunk” and “belligerent.”

Security video footage shows Cychosz left the store and began to urinate in the parking lot, then “fall” into the vehicle, where he sat for around two minutes, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit then states that Cychosz then exited the vehicle and began to fidget with something around his waistband, then zipped up his jacket and went back into the store.

Cychosz then lifted the jacket in front of the employee, displaying a “small dark-colored handgun in the front waistband of his pants,” says the affidavit.

The affidavit further states that Cychosz “grabbed” the employee and said: “Who do you know that’s got one of these? Does your boyfriend got one of these?”

The employee told police that she believes Cychosz probably showed her the handgun because he knows she is afraid of guns. She also added that Cychosz had previously forced her to hold the handgun to make her uncomfortable, according to the affidavit.

Surveillance footage then shows Cychosz open a bottle of beer and then drop the bottle. The employee attempted to clean the mess with paper towels, but Cychosz “grabbed her by her right hand and quickly grabbed the paper towels out of her hand,” says the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Cychosz then “flipped off” the camera above the sales counter, left the store, and got in his vehicle and drove away.

The affidavit then states that Cychosz passed police Cpl. Matthew Marchbanks while driving away from the store. Marchbanks then ran the vehicle’s license plate number and determined that the registration belonged to Cychosz.

According to the affidavit, law enforcement recognized Cychosz from previous incidents.

Cychosz was charged with third-degree criminal trespass, harassment, prohibited use of a firearm and domestic violence, according to the affidavit.

According to a clerk at the Routt County Combined Court, Cychosz was given a $750 personal recognizance bond during a hearing on Tuesday and is expected to be released from Routt County Jail.

The clerk also added that two protection orders were issued in the case, protecting the victim and the business.

Cychosz’s next court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Feb. 18.
